My Story

My name is Steve Shelley and I have been handcrafting my own style of custom live edge furniture, wood bowls and boards at my shop in Campbell River since 2008 Working with my hands and some simple tools I reclaim wood from our beaches and abandoned logging sites and handcraft live edge wood tables, live edge shelves, burl bowls, cutting & serving boards and cribbage boards in my shop in Campbell River, on the gorgeous east coast of Vancouver Island.

Working with reclaimed and salvaged wood is something I have been passionate about most of my adult life.

My way of making my reclaimed wood furniture is not about buying a piece wood, buying some legs off of Amazon, putting it together and calling it a handmade piece of furniture.

I love being able to find and salvage or reclaim the wood, whether it is from a beach along Discovery Passage or Quadra Island, from a burn pile at an old logging site on Northern Vancouver Island, or from our neighbour’s back yard, and turning it into something not only beautiful but functional.

I get the inspiration for my work from the natural beauty of where we live, off the West Coast of British Columbia, with the Old Growth Forests, the Ocean, the Mountains, Rivers and the Streams. I like to keep it natural and keep it simple, letting the wood speak for itself  and I hope it shows in each piece that I make.

All of the species of wood I work with are indigenous to Vancouver Island and include Arbutus, Big Leaf Maple, Red and Yellow Cedar. Pacific Yew and Douglas Fir.

I usually work alone and really enjoy milling and resawing the wood, as well as doing most of the metal fabrication and Epoxy work.
